Compartment Description

Compartment 20 comprises approximately 5000m of floodbank along the left bank of the River Yare and covers an area of 425 hectares. This compartment incorporates a significant amount of the community of Langley with Hardly village. A public right of way extends along the floodbank and along Langley Dike and Hardley Dike, which border the compartment in the east and west respectively.
Within the compartment there are a few historical sites such as Grade II listed Hardley Drainage Mill, a 17th century Barn at Staithe farm as well as the possible sites of Hardley Mill and Langley Roundhouse steam pump. Recorded archaeological findings include a Neolithic axe head, adze, long barrow and cursus.
