Compartment Description

Compartment 34 on the right bank of the River Waveney comprises 3500m of floodbank and covers an area of 299 hectares. There are no designated sites within the compartment boundaries. Much of the marshes are under Environmentally Sensitive Area (ESA) agreement and is managed as Tier 3 (wet grassland), 2 (extensive grassland) and fen with a small proportion of Tier 1 (permanent grassland). There are two drainage mills on the floodbank, Caldecott Drainage Mill and Black Drainage Mill and no public access along the floodbank. However, Angles Way, a long distance footpath, crosses the northern section of the compartment. Compartment 34 incorporates the eastern outskirts of the community of Belton, and therefore contains a number of residential dwellings.
