Compartment Description

Compartment 31 covers an area of 102 hectares and comprises a 2960m stretch of floodbank on the right bank of the River Waveney. The defences protect Somerleyton Marshes, which is used as arable land and grazing marsh. The majority of the marshes are subject to Environmentally Sensitive Area (ESA) payments and fall predominately within the Tier 2 (extensive grassland) category. The remainder of the floodbank has no ESA classification. There are no residential dwellings, public moorings or public access within the compartment.
