Compartment Information

Name: Langley, Compartment 20
Location: Langley Marshes, River Yare


Compartment 20 comprises approximately 5000m of floodbank along the right bank of the River Yare and covers an area of 425 hectares. The Wherryman's Way long distance path follows the floodbank including along Langley Dyke and Hardley Dyke. Private moorings exist at the two dykes with 24 hour visitor moorings available at the head of Langley Dyke and next to Hardley Mill.

The compartment contains the Grade II listed Hardley Drainage Mill, a 17th century Barn at Staithe farm as well as Langley Roundhouse steam pump. Recorded archaeological findings include a Neolithic axe head, adze, long barrow and cursus.
